The structure of hot stamping paper is divided into: base layer, peeling layer, color layer, electroplating layer, and glue layer.
The first layer: base layer
It generally uses a 12μm-25μm thick biaxially stretched polyester film, which is mainly used to support the coatings attached to it, so as to facilitate continuous hot stamping during processing. It has properties such as tensile resistance and instantaneous high temperature resistance.
The second layer: peeling layer
It is generally coated with silicone resin and the like. The main function is to enable the colorant, aluminum, and glue layer to quickly detach from the polyester film after hot stamping and be transferred and bonded to the surface of the hot stamped object. The peeling layer should have good shedding performance, otherwise the hot stamped images and texts will be blurred and exposed, affecting the quality of the hot stamped products.
The third layer: color layer
The main components are film-forming, heat-resistant, transparent, suitable synthetic resins and dyes. Commonly used resins include polyurethane nitrocellulose, melamine formaldehyde resin, modified rosin resin, etc. During production, the resin and dye are dissolved in an organic solvent to form a color paste, which is then coated and dried. There are two main functions: one is to display color; the other is to protect the aluminum-plated image and text printed on the surface of the object from oxidation. The colors of electrochemical aluminum foil include golden yellow, orange, gray, red, blue, green, etc. The color of the color layer is given luster after passing through the aluminum-plated layer, and the color has certain changes, such as yellow becomes gold after diamond plating, and gray becomes silver after aluminum plating. The coating requirements for the color layer are fine and free of any small particles to avoid sand holes and uniform coating.
The fourth layer: electroplating layer
The film coated with colorant is placed in the vacuum chamber of the vacuum continuous aluminum plating machine. Under a certain vacuum degree, the aluminum wire is melted and continuously evaporated onto the color layer of the film through resistance heating, thus forming an aluminum-plated layer. The main function of the aluminum-plated layer is to reflect light, change the color of the color layer, and make it present a metallic luster.
The fifth layer: glue layer
Generally, it is a fusible thermoplastic resin. Different resins can be selected according to the different materials to be hot stamped. The resin is dissolved in an organic solvent or prepared into an aqueous solution, and then coated on the aluminum layer by a coating machine. After drying, it becomes a glue layer. Its main function is to bond the hot stamping material to the object to be hot stamped. One of the main reasons for the phenomenon of hot stamping failure during hot stamping is that the glue layer is not matched. The type of anodized aluminum foil selected should also be different for different hot stamping objects.
